Applying advanced mathematical modelling to complex offshore engineering challenges

I joined Aquaterra Energy in 2023 after completing a BSc in Natural Sciences at the University of Leeds and an MSc in Applied Mathematical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. My postgraduate studies focused heavily on mathematical modelling, so I was excited to find a role that allowed me to apply those skills to real-world engineering challenges. As an Offshore Analyst, I build and analyse mathematical simulations of offshore riser systems, helping clients understand the structural and fatigue limits of their equipment and determine the conditions in which operations can be carried out safely.

One of the aspects I enjoy most about working at Aquaterra is the culture. The work is varied and technically interesting, but the people really make the difference. Everyone is approachable, supportive and always happy to help, creating a great working environment. A standout opportunity for me has been taking on the role of lead analyst for several large analysis scopes supporting clients in South East Asia, allowing me to develop my technical expertise while building confidence in project leadership and client engagement. Outside of work, I enjoy playing the drums, which is a great way to switch off and be creative.
