As the industry defines how to deliver safe and scalable carbon storage, the CCS Wells Technology Roadmap from the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) and North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) provides an important reference point. Aquaterra Energy’s inclusion reflects our continued focus on engineering solutions that move CCS from concept to reliable operation.
The roadmap sets out a clear vision for how the UK can position itself as a global leader in carbon capture and storage (CCS). Wells are at the heart of this challenge – the gateway for safely injecting and permanently storing CO₂ beneath the seabed. Getting the technology right is critical to achieving the UK’s net-zero ambitions and ensuring the long-term integrity of storage sites.
The report identifies more than 60 enabling technologies across four key focus areas: materials and equipment, intervention and workovers, monitoring, and legacy well remediation. These priorities mirror Aquaterra Energy’s innovation agenda – translating proven offshore engineering into practical, deployable solutions for the next generation of CCS infrastructure.
Delivering technology that supports the global CCS vision
Our inclusion in the roadmap highlights the maturity and relevance of several of our technologies that are helping to make CCS deployment safer, faster and more scalable – not only in the UK but worldwide.
Turning innovation into field-ready solutions
Our technologies bridge the gap between oil and gas experience and the emerging requirements of CCS wells. Each is engineered for real-world deployment – modular, efficient, and compatible with existing offshore infrastructure. That focus on practical implementation is essential if the CCS sector is to scale rapidly while maintaining safety and cost control.
Supporting the UK and global net-zero ambition
With 27 CO₂ storage licences already awarded across the UK Continental Shelf, collaboration will be key to turning ambition into action. The CCS Wells Technology Roadmap provides a valuable framework for how technology providers, operators, and regulators can work together to accelerate deployment.
At Aquaterra Energy, we’ll continue advancing technologies that enable safe, efficient and scalable CO₂ storage. By combining proven well engineering capability with innovation tailored to the CCS market, we’re helping to build the infrastructure that will support the UK’s vision – and the wider global drive towards net zero.
