According to research from sector trade body Subsea UK, the UK’s subsea industry has created 16,000 new jobs over the last three years.
The industry currently supports around 66,000 jobs in total and is worth £8.9bn. The research, conducted among 750 companies, forecasts that another 10,000 jobs are in the pipeline, the majority of which will be in Scotland, and that the industry will grow in value to £11.1bn in the next three years.
75% of the industry’s total revenues were generated in the North Sea and specialist work carried out in this region has helped the industry to develop its expertise and capture nearly half of the global market.
Commenting on the diversity of career opportunities available in offshore and subsea industries, Patrick Phelan, managing director of Aquaterra Energy said: “This research emphasises just how vast the diversity and scope of career options is within our industry, something that’s often overlooked.
Within our own company, where we are delivering the full scope of offshore riser and platform projects, from conceptual design through to installation and maintenance, career options are extremely varied and can span a number of disciplines.”
