Reducing CO2 emissions

Learn how our solutions can help you decarbonise your next project – from drilling to decommissioning.

Supporting your decarbonisation efforts

Our products and services have always been designed with efficiency in mind. Historically, the benefits of that efficiency have been measured in dollars and hours of rig-time saved, but they can also be measured in terms of emission reductions.

As we all adjust to the energy transition, learn how our products can help you decarbonise your next project, whether it’s drilling, well intervention, field development, carbon capture (usage) and storage (CCS/CCUS), or decommissioning.

Sea Swift

Our Sea Swift platform offers built-in decarbonisation advantages to help customers adapt to the energy transition and lower emissions on field development projects:

Designed with up to 30% less steel than off-the-shelf jacketed options, the Sea Swift platform incurs lower manufacturing and shipping emissions.

Installation via jack-up removes the need for heavy-lift barges, which are highly emissions-intensive due to fuel consumption – especially if they must travel long-distances between projects.

Can be fully powered by renewable sources, such as wind and solar. This eliminates the need for traditional diesel generators for power, significantly reducing emissions including those associated with the maintenance and logistics for refuelling visits to the platform.

Riser systems & analysis

Every one of the riser systems we design, develop and install meets the specific needs of each client and circumstance, delivering cost savings, reduced rig-time, and decarbonisation benefits – the same things we aim to deliver through our riser analysis service.

Our riser systems are engineered to be efficient and proficient, with no wasted materials, incurring lower manufacturing emissions.

By reducing rig-time and personnel mobilisation, our risers reduce risk while also reducing the carbon-costs of offshore transportation back-and-forth.

Our expert riser analysis engineers can build carbon savings in at the design stage of a system, for example by identifying opportunities for using less steel while meeting all regulatory and operational requirements.

Well Start

Well Start is the one stop shop for the widest available range of highly-engineered products and services needed for the first phase of an offshore project. It streamlines the supply chain and shortens time to operation, but it can also help reduce emissions too:

Lighter raw material requirements and a streamlined supply chain not only reduce emissions associated with manufacturing and transporting equipment, but also reduces the number of personnel required offshore.

Designed to support rapid project starts, Well Start reduces rig time and therefore risks and emissions associated with running rigs for longer periods of time.

Well Start can be repurposed as a solution for today’s increasing decommissioning and carbon capture (usage) and storage (CCS/CCUS) projects, which face similar engineering and efficiency challenges as well drilling and intervention work.

Aquaterra Express

Every new piece of offshore equipment that is made incurs an environmental cost as a result of the emissions embedded in the manufacturing process and supply chain. Often this equipment is bought, used once, and mothballed for future use, creating low utilisation rates.

Rental equipment, like our Aquaterra Express, by contrast, enjoys high utilisation rates, with the supply-chain and emissions costs spread over more projects, and can reduce the need for newly manufactured equipment.

Lower the equipment manufacturing and supply-chain emissions by opting for rental products, which spread emissions over a greater number of projects.

Prevent the need for emissions intensive (and expensive) manufacture of new equipment in certain scenarios.

Wherever possible, Aquaterra Energy intelligently manages rental equipment in order to reduce miles travelled between projects, reducing transportation emissions.
