My journey started in 2020 whilst studying for my Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance at East Coast College, where I was awarded Student of Year.
My ECITB’s ITECH course tutor informed me that Aquaterra Energy would soon be advertising for an apprenticeship position within their Ops Base in Gt Yarmouth, and would be looking for an ITECH student to fulfil the position.
I did some research on the company and approached them for further information on the role. I was informed that Aquaterra Energy had recently been selected by Catapult for the Fit for Offshore Renewables cohort, which sounded an exciting journey to be part of. I had always been interested in the Offshore Energy as a career path, due to family members having also worked in it and learning about it whilst I was growing up.
I duly applied for the apprenticeship position and was delighted to be invited to attend an interview! I had an instant sense that Aquaterra Energy was the place for me. I was confident during the interview and at ease with the team, who had given me an immediate welcoming feeling.
I was thrilled to be offered the position and began working at Aquaterra Energy in November 2020, and I soon felt part of the team. I find the work enjoyable, and I thrive on the challenging tasks and absolutely love the problem-solving part of the job. My learning has extended to my home life in that whilst watching films I can easily recognise equipment that I have worked on, and can understand more of the conversations and terminology used in the industry.
